Becoming an Adult (age 18)

                                Dear Student:

Due to the fact that you are soon turning eighteen (18), you are considered a legal adult unless someone has filed
guardianship for you.  This  means that you are responsible to make your own educational decisions under federal
and state special education laws.  Your parents will no longer be responsible to make educational decisions for you,
                                    unless guardianship has been established.

Decisions about your education are important ones.  You may find it helpful to bring your parent or another adult to
your conferences with you to help make these important decisions.

Below is the link to access the brochure and procedural safeguards that explains your rights when you turn 18.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your special education teacher or our office at 533-3151.
